Jovian Destroyer

Background

The Destroyer is one of the heaviest Jovian vessels deployed during the war, it carries heavier weapons than the Frigate and is capable of matching and outgunning the United earth Destroyer. Able to fight both in space and inside an atmosphere it is one of the most effective weapons used by the Jovians

Unlike the United Earth Destroyer, the Jovian destroyer has a Phase Transition power plant capable of supporting a powerful Distortion Field and multiple Graviton Beams. It carries 6 - 8 Graviton Beams making it more dangerous than the Frigate, and a heavier shield.

The Jovian Destroyers has been seen during the invasion of Mars and subsequently during fighting on Earth and the Moon. Little else is known about the the Jovian Destroyer except that it carries a robot crew and most probably acts as a command vessel for the lighter Jovian insects though it is known that they have a substantial intelligence of their own and are capable of operating independently. It is presumed that when accompanying insects the Destroyer is able to supply them with energy through a Graviton Power beam.

The Destroyer carries a battery of heavy graviton Weapons to attack enemy ships and can act as an aircraft carrier for the lighter Jovian insects.

Until the introduction of new technology developed by Nergal, the United Earth Destroyer was only able to combat the Jovian Destroyer when escorted by lighter vessels, and when part of a larger flotilla.

Weapons

The Destroyer carries a battery of heavy Graviton Beam cannons to attack enemy vessels, it has not been seen to carry defensive laser cannons or other conventional cannons, though no Jovian vessels appear to carry the lighter varieties of defensive armament.

The Destroyer is able to act as an aircraft carrier for hundreds of light Jovian Insects. The insects act as weapons and as a defense against enemy robots.

Armour

The composition of the Jovian armour is unknown, though it is likely to be either metal plate or ceramic plate armour. The Jovian Destroyer carried a Distortion Field from the beginning of the war so it is likely that it has far less armour than the United Earth Destroyer. However it is probable that it can stand sustained fire from medium weapons and moderate fire from heavy weapons. Some evidence from Akito's encounter with an Unmanned Battleship on Mars suggests that Jovian vessels carry very little armour, he appeared to be able to destroy the Battleship with a single Distortion Field enhanced punch from his Aestavalis.

The Jovian Distortion Field carried by the Destroyer is able to withstand sustained fire from conventional weapons, and moderate fire from wide angle Graviton Weapons, it is not able to withstand moderate fire from the the multi barrel Graviton Beam cannon used by the Cosmos, or from narrow beam Graviton Blast Weapons (The Kakitsubatta was able to destroy the far a more powerful Unmanned Battleship with a single sustained attack).
