The Nadesico is sent on a mission to the North Pole to retrieve an agent on an important mission but during the flight he crew are restless and tempers become frayed, each member of the crew reacts slightly differently to the boredom.

Yurika accidentally fires the Gravity Blast Cannon, alerting the Jovians to the Nadesico's presence and they begin to attack. 

Yurika dispatches the Pilots to defend the ship knowing that the conditions outside were very dangerous and that Akito might be killed or injured. She decides that it is his duty to defend the ship and that she won't prevent him from fighting. Megumi disagrees and thinks that the captain should keep Akito onboard to protect him from injury.

As the pilots begin to fight a huge blizzard engulfs the entire area and blocks both communications and the ships Graviton Power Beam.

Akito searches for the missing agent but is attacked by a swarm of insects, the blizzard makes fighting difficult and his Aestavalis begins to run low on power.

The crew are waiting anxiously for Akito as he is the only pilot not to have returned from combat, as the blizzard abates the power counter for Akito's Aestavalis reaches empty and the crew begin to think that he may have bee killed, but just as they begin to loose heart he appears, floating on a section of ice and carrying a large polar bear.

The admiral tells them that it was to dangerous to send a human on an intelligence gathering mission, so they equipped a polar bear with sophisticated sensors and let it roam close to the Jovians foothold in the region.

On returning to the ship, Akito doesn't go to meet Megumi, instead he heads for the bridge to see Yurika.
