Episode 8

Date: 2197 - 8 Months after the Nadesico escapes from the Martian invasion


A battle is raging between the United Earth Force and the Jovians, oth sides are taking fire and for once the United Earth isn't loosing, suddenly a Jovian Chulip opens up and a large warship comes through, but it is not a Jovian vessel, it is the Nadesico. As the Nadesico exits the Chulip, its Distortion Field tears the Chulip apart and it explodes.

The crew of the Nadesico are all asleep at their positions, they wake up not knowing where the ship is or why the fell asleep, Yurika is not on the bridge (she is in the observation deck with Both Inez Fresange and Akito). When she discovers that they are in the middle of a battle Yurika panics and orders the bridge to open fire, unfortunately the Nadesico is facing the United Earth fleet and fires on them.

Akito and the other pilots launch their Aestavalis to defend the badly damaged Nadesico, but Akito panics and has to be rescued. A mystery pilot come to his aid, when suddenly a powerful Graviton Blast destroys most of the attacking Jovians, and the rest decide to retreat, but the blast was not fired by the Nadesico.

The Cosmos, a vessel built to serve with the United Earth, emerges from behind the debris caused by the Graviton Blast, it is a lot bigger than the Nadesico and has a lot more firepower.

The pilot who rescued Akito is introduced as Nagare Akatsuki. It is explained that the Nadesico has been missing for 8 months and during that time Nergal and the United Earth patched up their differences and Nergal began to supply distortion fields and graviton technology to the United Earth.

The new warship is called the ND-002 Cosmos.

Nagare leaves the cosmos and begins service on board the Nadesico as an Aestavalis pilot, a lady named Irina Wong also comes with him and takes up the position of helms man alongside Minato Hakura, Mr. Prospector realises that she is actually an important PA for the chairman of Nergal, but he does not tell the captain.

Nergal's new alliance with the United Earth, and the proliferation of shield technology in the time between the Nadesico leaving Earth and returning from Mars, the Jovians have been forced to retreat and the the surface of the moon has been freed from occupation, there are still Jovian vessels in orbit, and a large contingent of robots and vessels on Earth.

Akito and the pilots continue in the battle with the surviving Jovan forces, but an insect attacks Akito's Aestavalis and hurls him outside of the transmission radius of the Nadesico's graviton Power Beam, without engine power, Akito drifts towards the dark side of the moon.


Megami and Yurika launch a rescue mission while the Nadesico is being repaired, but their shuttles are attacked and they are forced to eject. Both ladies are rescued by Akito.

Akito discovers that his Aestavalis does not have  enough air to rescue Megumi and Yurki, and they argue over who must get out so that the others can get to the ship. The one who leaves must wait in a space suit for a rescue mission to be launched, if that is the others survive long enough to get help.

Using a Solar Sail to provide momentum and power, Akito begins to jettison parts of the Aestavalis to great momentum and to reduce the Aestavalis's  total mass. He has decided that he will try to rescue both of the ladies, even if it means that their air supply will run out far sooner.

Fortunately for Akito, Jun decided to launch his own rescue mission and took the Nadesico out of its repair bay before damage to its weapon systems could be repaired, he finds Akito and the officers and saves them before they run out of power and oxygen.

Irina proves that she is not just a helmsman she has accessed the ships security cameras and shows Akatsuki a picture of Akito vanishing from his bedroom when the Nadesico Boson Jumped, emerging somewhere else in the vessel. Now both Narage and Irina begin to plot their next moves, but who's side, if any are they on, and why did Akito vanish as the ship entered the vortex.
