Episode 7
Date: September 2196
The Nadesico manages to escapes from the pursuing
Jovians, but it's engines and power generators are heavily damaged and the
ship is unable to generate sufficient energy to enter Mars orbit, or even to
climb to a higher altitude.
To pass the time Yurika dresses up as a giant
bunnyto host a children's program on the technology used to build and power
the Nadesico (Getting to know Nadesico), Ruri
is a presenter and Inez is the producer. The
show is pulled because of energy rationing.
Ryoko and the female pilots are dispatched to
a remote outpost on the planets northern pole to look for supplies and
materials that could help the war effort, but they find that the Jovian's
defenses are too heavy for the Aestavalis to safely complete their mission,
on the way they are also are attacked by a stealthy Jovian robot
that is able to burrow under the polar snow capes and attack the Aestavalis
before they can react. Though they eventually destroy the robot they decide
to return to the ship rather than to continue with the mission.
The pilots are again sent to the North to locate a secret Nergal base where
Mr. Prospector believed there could be a working power plant that the crew
could install to enable them to escape from the Jovians. As they set off for
the Northern Pole the Nadesico's sensors detect the Friend or Foe
recognition signal from the Frigate Crocus which was thought to have been
destroyed on Earth two weeks prior to their arrival in orbit around Mars.
The frigate appears to be intact so Akito goes with the Admiral to search
for survivors.
Akito is still angry with the Admiral after finding that he was the man who
ordered the suicide attack that caused the first Jovian Chulip to demolish
his colony, but he agrees to go with him
The female pilots enter the secret Nergal base but discover that it is not a
normal science outpost, it is an archeological site. Inez explains that many
years ago archeologists digging on Mars discovered alien ruins containing
previously unknown technology from a long dead civilization. She tells them
that she worked with the technology discovered in the ruins to help Nergal
build the first human designed Phase Transition engine, along with much of
the new technology that was installed into the Nadesico.
Akito enters the Frigate Crocus in his
Aestavalis and investigates on foot. While the Frigate appears to be
unharmed the crew are missing or dead, Akito saves the Admiral when they are
attacked by a small Jovian insect but is still very angry at him.
Akito tells the Nadesico that the Crocus is
undamaged and they decide to use it in their effort to escape from the
Jovians, but the Admiral tells them that the ships engines are blocked with
snow and Akito is sent outside to use his Land Frame to clear the exhaust
vents. As he leaves the Crocus it takes off, apparently freeing its self
from the snow with ease. The Crocus moves away from the Nadesico and turns
on it, the Admiral uses the ships cannons to try and force the Nadesico into
a local Jovian Chulip.
A large fleet of Jovian warships soon arrives and begins to line up for an
attack that would certainly destroy both the Nadesico and the Crocus,
reluctantly Yurika retreats through the Jovian Chulip knowing that the
Admiral is going to self destruct the Crocus behind her to block the Jovians
path and destroy the Chulip to prevent the Jovians from Pursuing her.
After the death of the Admiral Akito tries to comfort Yurika,
who feel responsible for both the deaths of the colonists, and for the death
of the Admiral. Akito begins to see that despite his relationship with
Magumi, he still holds strong feelings for Yurika.
Yurika refuses Akito's
kiss and runs way from him.
