Nadesico Episode 6

Episode: 6
Episode Title: Sort of like a fateful decision

Episode 6

Date: September 2196 - 2 week after the Nadesico escapes from the planet Earth

The Nadesico is attacked by the Jovian sentries and dispatches its Aestavalis, Akito demonstrates a new method to attack capital ships. He uses a combat knife to show that you can penetrate a powerful distortion field by concentrating pressure on a single area of the shield and at a precise angle. Using this attack and a Distortion Flair attack (a similar attack but using his distortion field) he destroys the unmanned battleship attacking the Nadesico, it is not shown how the Frigates and other craft were destroyed.

When they land on Mars Akito takes an Aestavalis to see the ruins of the Utopia Colony, his former him. Megumi wants to come with him so that he can see where he grew up.

Akito arrives at the colony and explains to Megumi that the reason he became a cook was because the soil on Mars was very poor because the teraforming process that was turning Mars into a habitable planet was not complete, and all of the vegetables that they were growing tasted bad, but that a good cook could make even Martian food taste nice. He also explains to her why he has a Nano controller.

When Akito was a child Yurika caused a mechanical digger to go on the rampage, and he was blamed for it, he became frustrated that he wasn't able to operate the digger and had a Nano implant to allow him to operate machines like a pilot.

As they are reminiscing, the pair fall through the roof of a cave and into the caverns beneath the Utopia Colony. There they met the Scientist Inez Fresange who threatens them with having to drink her special blend of bad coffee, brewed from the coffee salvaged after the destruction of the colony.

Inez tells them that all of the survivors have gathered beneath the colony and have remained their since the invasion. She tells them that the Jovians efforts appear to be concentrated at the Northern Pole and that they have largely ignored the remaining Humans.

When Akito tells her that he is on a rescue mission, Inez explains that the Jovians have highly advanced technology and that the Nadesico would probably be destroyed before it could escape, so it was safer for her to remain in the shelter and wait out the occupation. The other survivors have agreed with Inez and everybody decided to remain in the safety of the shelters.

Inez also explains that she knows all about the Nadesico, because she helped to design its engines and power plant.

Soon the Nadesico arrives looking for Akito, but it brings the Jovians with it, as Inez tries to explain that the Jovians are too powerful a large force arrives. The Nadesico fires on the Jovians and Yurika thinks that they have been destroyer, but as the dust and the energy blast clears, the entire Jovian fleet emerges unharmed. Inez explains that Jovian warships carry powerful distortion fields.

Not having been briefed on the limitations of the Nadesico's power plant when in an atmosphere Yurika orders a second volley to be fired using the continuous fire mode, only for it to be explained that the engines cannot generate sufficient power unless they are in a vacuum.

The Jovians approach and Yurika is forced to make a terrible choice, if she raises the Nadesico's distortion field while over the colony, the shelter will be crushed.

Unable to gain sufficient height or distance in time to save the colony, Yurika activates the shields and murders the remaining colonists as the first Jovian barrage is fired. The Nadesico sustains heavy damage before its shields are activates and the colony is utterly destroyed.

Akito tries to comfort Yurika, who knows that she lead the Jovians to the colony and caused the death of the survivors, who would otherwise have been left alone by the Jovians.
