Akito becomes a cook on the Nadesico and escapes with it on its maiden voyage.

The United Earth leaders decide that the Nadesico is too powerful to be allowed to remain in Civilian hands and send out a force to capture it.

Admiral Misumaru, Yurika's Father, is sent in the Destroyer Tobiume, and escorted by the Frigates Pansy and Crocus on a secret rendezvous to intercept and capture the Nadesico.

Mr. Prospector reveals that the Nadesico's true mission is to rescue the surviving Martian colonists and to recover any advanced technology and recourses that can be salvaged from the colony.

The Frigates Pansy and Crocus arrive, hidden underwater and intercept the Nadesico and Admiral Munetake takes control of the vessel.

Yurika meets with her Father, Admiral Misumaru, who does not want the Nadesico to be sent to Mars while Earth is being occupied. He tries to persuade her to rejoin the war on Earth. 

The Nadesico's crew escape from captivity and liberate the ship, Admiral Munetake and his soldiers are taken prisoner.

A Jovian Chulip attacks the Frigates Pansy and Crocus and devours them, they are presumed to have been totally destroyed

Akito fights the Chulip in an Aestavalis but he has to use decouple from his robot and link to Jiro's Aestavalis because his robot is not designed to be able to fly, Akito decoys the Chulip long enough for Yurika to return to the ship with the captains controller, a key required to operate the vessel. 
Yurika uses the Nadesico's Graviton Blast Cannon to destroy the Chulip by firing directly into its Bosun Gate from the inside.

The Nadesico escapes from the UE and begins its journey to Mars but without Jun Aoi who wants Yurika to use the ship to fight the Jovian who are still attacking the Earth.
