Episode 13
Date: December 2197
Nergal decides that rather than pay for the destruction of UE vessels caused
by the malfunction in the Nadesico targeting systems, that it would lease
the ship to the UE, this means that the crew must join the military.
Most of the crew do not want to become soldiers and some of them leave, but
the UE decides that Akito is too inexperienced to be allowed to fight and
bring in Seelie, a veteran pilot. They also decide that they don't want him
as a cook on board, so he leaves the ship.
Megumi decides that she doesn't want to serve on the Nadesico without Akito
and follows him into his new civilian life.
After leaving the ship, Ernia
Wong, a secret top ranking PA with Nergal brings Akito to a research
facility that is using a captured Chulip to initiate manned Bosun Jumps, so
far all of their experiments have resulted in the deaths of the men sent
though the gate, and they want to know how Akito survived.
She shows Akito a Chulip Crystal, a unique mineral that is used in the
initiation of a Bosun Jump, the most important material used in the construction
of a Chulip. Akito then discovers that it was a Chulip Crystal, given to him
as a gift by his Father, that saved his life
on Mars. It activated as the Jovians attacked and transported him to Earth.
He tells Erina that the crystal vanished after he used it. He says that he
does not want to work for Nergal and leaves Erina in the laboratory to
continue to search for a way to send people through the Chulip.
Akito and Megumi begin to argue because he want to
fight to protect Earth, but she is afraid that he will be killed and wants
him to stay with her and protect her, as they argue, the Jovians send their
own attack group through the captured Chulip, destroying the the base
The Jovians send a force of two super sized robots through the Chulip and begin to attack
the civilian population, the Nadesico's pilots engage the robots but these
new machines are far larger than the other robots used by the Jovians and have their own internal generators, enabling
them to carry powerful distortion fields, and to use Graviton blast weapons.
As they begin to fight, one of the Jovians suddenly Bosun Jumps, attacking
the pilots from behind. Early on pilots are not able to defeat the Jovians,
but Ryoko uses her Aestavalis's computer to calculate the jumping pattern of
one of the robots and begins to gain the upper hand, attacking it before it
can orientate itself after jumping. Seelie uses the grappler claws on her
Aestavalis to try and hold one of the robots so that she can attack it, she
fires at close quarters and heavily damages the robot, but it activates its
Bosun Generator and vanishes, taking her Aestavalis with it. When the Robot reappears,
Seelie's cockpit has been crushed by the turbulence inside the vortex and
she has been killed.
Seelie has managed to destroy the robot before it jumped, and the other
robot is under attack from the pilots, who now know its jumping pattern.
The surviving retreats from combat and
activates its self destruct device, threatening to destroy a large portion
of the city in a Phase Transition blast that would try to convert the
surrounding area like it would a vacuum, to create power for its engines.
Seeing the battle, Akito decided that he must fight to protect the Earth, he
leaves Megumi crying in a restaurant and goes to Nergal's base.
When Akito emerges he has a large container of Chulip Crystals, throwing
them at the robot, he initiates an organic Bosun Jump and vanishes along
with the robot.
The crew are very upset because it appears that Akito is dead, but
he sends them a message saying that he is alive and is on the moon but has
been unable to get a message though to them. Akito tells the crew that he jumped 2 weeks through time
and was carried with the robot.
The engineers hear a strange sound coming from
the robot, and open it to find that it was designed to carry a living pilot,
and that it contained a large amount of anime merchandise. Ruri expresses
the feeling of the crew.
