Episode: 12
Episode Title: Those unforgettable days |

Episode 12
Date: 2197
During a minor battle with the Jovians the targeting systems onboard the
Nadesico begin to malfunction, the ships sensors log United Earth vessels as
enemies and feed this information to the Aestavalis causing their missiles
to lock onto UE fighters when they open fire. The UE is forced to retreat
from battle, and the Jovians are so confused that they also retreat.
A team of engineers is dispatched to locate and eradicate the fault in the
targeting system, but as soon as their shuttle begins to approach fro
docking, the Nadesico's automatic threat warning system targets them and launches
a missile, destroying their shuttle.
Ruri manages to regain control of the computer, and when the shuttles escape
pod is recovered the engineers begin to work on the combat systems. Working
with Ruri, they find that because the Nadesico was fired on by the United
Earth during its escape to Mars, and because it was used to penetrate the
Earth's defensive shield Episode 2 and 3 - Leave the blue Earth to me), the
computer has determined that the United Earth must be its enemy.
The engineers want to terminate the Nadesico's compute programs and install
another program of their own, even though it would mean that the information
from the ships missions would have to be destroyed.
Ruri protests, saying that the ships
computer is so advanced that it has reached a level of self awareness, and
that it would be killed if they erased it, but the engineers do not listen
to her and begin to install a program that will erase the computer ships
programs and replace it with their own software.
Seiya and Ruri
came up with a plan to save the ships computer and asked Akito
to go into the ships data repositories to destroy the sections that were
making the Nadesico attack the United Earth. Akito uses a virtual reality
system to enter the ships data store as a virtual Aestavalis, but he
discovers that the computer has generated a digital guard robot using
information from Akito's anime collection. Using his knowledge of the Anime
character that the computer is defending its self with, Akito becomes an
even more powerful virtual robot and destroys the guardian. He is then able
to delete the data that the computer is using to determine that the United
Earth is its enemy.
Seiya destroys the UE program and replaces it with a dummy program so that
they think that their software was installed. Ruri thanks Akito for saving
the computer and begins to develop her own emotional attachment to him.
With the new software seemingly installed and the ships computer operating
normally, everbody goes ack to fighting the war.
