Background

The Jiro is an unmanned robot insect used by the Jovians in their attack on Earth and in the invasion of Mars. It is their main weapon of close range attack and has been used in combat with ever variety of craft and most varieties of robot.

In their attack on Human forces, the Jiro was seen to slaughter Human colonist in the Utopia colony and have been seen in every large battle. Jiro are not heavily armored and do not have the power to fire a Graviton Beam weapons or other energy weapon. Instead they use semi guided rockets and machine guns

Weapons

The Jiro is light attack robot armed with a defensive Distortion Field and light machine guns for use against unshielded or lightly armed target, it also carries a battery of medium rockets inside its hull that can be used against warships and heavily armed attackers. These rockets are also used in clusters to fire of fast moving targets.

The Jiro uses a battery of medium rockets inside its hull to combat larger enemies, when not in combat, these weapons are stored inside the robots body. Though Jiro have distortion fields it is not known how they power them because their bodies are not heavy enough to contain a large generator. Jiro appear to avoid using their shields on Earth, this may be because of the increased distance between them and a graviton power beam capable ship or other factors involved in fighting on the surface of a planet reduces their supply of energy.

A more powerful Jiro was deployed against the Nadesico on Tenician Island, when in combat this Jiro attacked with a larger battery of rockets than the standard light Jiro, but did not use machine guns or a Distortion Field/ This larger Jiro must have had a power generator in order to be able to operate for any length of time, though it may have been operating on emergency batteries.

Jiro can attack from the air using wings that are stored inside their armour when walking, they can also hover using thruster and conventional jets in the bodies. It is not known if Jiro are commanded from a warship, or if they can fight any distance away from other Jovian vessels, it is known that they have their own power generators, though their body size may indicate that they use a graviton power beam to fight.

In a battle with the Nadesico, a force of Jiro were shown with an unknown gray machine attached to their shell, this machine may have been an extra generator. This has not been seen before on Earth and it is not know how the Jiro used them in this battle. though their appear to cover the Jiro's missile launchers

Jiro can lift other insects and operate as an attack fighter, using the insects weapons to attack.

This has only been seen during combat on Earth, and has not been seen in the Martian battles.

Jiro have also been seen to attack on the ground, using their legs like an insect and attacking light opponents with their machine guns. Jiro must fight inside buildings and vessels using a battery or their own generators because a command cruiser can not power them.
