Delphinium

Background

The Delphinium is the only robot currently in use by the United Earth force, it is a short range space combat robot that is not capable of fighting on land (the Delphinium use thrusters and does not have means to walk or land) or in an atmosphere. It has a chemical engine, limiting its overall range and the time that it is able to spend in combat. It is presumed that when the Delphinium was first built energy siphon technology has not been developed to a level that it could be incorporated into the robot.

The only known use of the Delphinium was during the Nadesico's initial escape from Earth. Delphinium are one of Earths first lines of defense against invasion, their combat area limited to the just inside the big barrier. It was just before breaching the big barrier that the Nadesico encountered a squadron of Delphinium commanded by Jun Aoi

Armour

The Delphinium uses metal armour which is sufficient to withstand moderate fire from light weapons and light fire from Jovian missiles, it is not able to withstand fire from Graviton Weapons or direct fire from missiles. Unlike the Aestavalis, which uses ceramic armour, the Delphinium has heavy and restrictive metal plating.

Weapons

The Delphinium's main weapons are medium guided missiles, they can engage in hand to hand combat and are probably also armed with conventional cannons, though in battle they have only been seen to use their missile. The engagement with the Nadesico showed that the missiles carried by the Delphinium are far to slow to be very effective an Aestavalis, their likelihood of being effective against the far more agile Jovian robots is not particularly high.
