The Cosmos
|
Name: Cosmos
Species: Human - Nergal
Technology: Warship |

Background
The Cosmos is a heavy battleship, it was designed and built by Nergal but is
operated by the United Earth Space Force. Its primary mission appears to be
the liberation and defense of the Moon and Earth.
The Cosmos was built during the Eight Month period that the Nadesico spent
in Boson Space, though due to the time it takes to construct a ship of that
size it can be presumed that the Cosmos was under construction before the
Nadesico's initial mission to Mars.
As a Heavy Battleship, the Cosmos has heavier armour and substantially more
firepower an than either the Nadesico or the Shakuyaku, which are considered
to be mobile or pocket battleships (Battleships built with lighter armour
and reduced battery numbers than a standard battleship, but still carrying
the heavy weapons used on a standard or heavy battleship). The Cosmos has an
unusual capability in that it can be used as a bay for the Nadesico.
Weapons
The Cosmos is armed with a multi-barrel Graviton Blast cannon, this weapon
utilizes several, probably 6-8, lighter Graviton Blast cannons and fires
them in a single volley. The multi barrel weapons provides the Cosmos with a
more efficient weapon than a single heavy Graviton weapons, it is capable of
focusing in in a smaller target with more power, or widening out to attack a
swarm of less armored enemy ships. The Cosmos has been seen to be able to
destroy a sizable force of enemy frigates and robots in a single volley,
where as the Nadesico has to narrow its beam and target frigates in small
clusters and with a continues attack. The multi-barrel approach is similar
to the multiple Graviton Beams used on most Jovian warships.
Armour
The Cosmos is a heavy battleship than the Nadesico, and so carries more
armour and better shields. However it has never been seen to take fire from
enemy weapons and so its shield power is unknown. Without shields the Cosmos
is still vulnerable to Graviton Weapons, which basically ignore all but the
most effective armour. This vulnerability was seen when Admiral
Munetake attempted to attack the Cosmos in an experimental Aestavalis. The
reactions of the crew to the possible use of the Aestavalis's main cannon, a
Graviton weapon, on an unshielded Cosmos allow us to presume that its armour
is unable to withstand a moderate to sustained attack from a Graviton
weapon.
