Background

Minato Hakura is the helmsman of the Nadesico and though she appears in a number of scenes she does not play an active role in the series. Since the Nadesicos integration into the United Earth Space Force (Episode 8 - The lukewarm cold equation) Minato shares the helm with Erina Won of Nergal.

Minato likes to sleep, and as the Nadesico does not require a helmsman when in free space, she spends much of her day sleeping. She also had a very close a relationship with Gort Horry, though this is not often shown in the series. Her relationship with Mr. Horry ended after a disagreement over the conflict with the Jovians.

Minato is a former Personal Assistant and is often calmer than the other crew  members when under attack.

Although a helmsman, Minato also has control over the Nadesico's' weapons, because the Graviton Blast Cannon the aimed from the helm. The Distortion field can also be activated by Minato, but this is usually done by the defense computer.

Minato had a relationship with a Jovian officer during the Earth - Jovian war, she took care of his sister while she was onboard and later became engaged to him. His tragic death at the hands of another Jovian prevented his marriage to her from becoming anything more than a dream.
