Background
Jun was born on Earth and attended the UE military
academy he has known Yurika since she
moved to Earth in 2185 and has been in love with her for almost as
long as he has been close to her.

Jun yearns for Yurika to notice him
romantically, but even before she found out that Akito
was still alive (2196) she did not return his affections. In fact Yurika
barely notices Jun's constant romantic pinning and professions of his love
for her, through his feelings are well known amongst the majority of the
crew.
Jun was a gifted officer with the United Earth
Space force but is now the Nadesicos' first Officer.
After the Nadesico evaded the attack group commanded by Admiral
Misumaru's (Frigates Pansey and Crocus, Destroyer Tobiume) that was sent
to bring the crew under United Earth influence, Jun briefly left the
Nadesico and returned to the United Earth space force.
Jun commanded a group of Delphinium
fighter in an effort to prevent the Nadesico from breaching Earth's second
defensive line. Though he engaged the Nadesico's Aestavalis
and brought them beyond the operational range of their external power
supplies Jun was defeated by Akito, and after
a near suicidal attempt to defend the Nadesico from an orbital weapons
battery, Jun returned once again to the Nadesico, but this time to protect
his true love Yurika.
During the Nadesico's maiden flight, a dangerous mission to the
occupied world of Mars to recover personal and machinery vital to the war
effort, Jun briefly became the commander of the Nadesico after Yurika
entered a Zen trance (Episode 5 - Ruri's navigation log) while meditating
on what it means to be the captain of a battleship.
Jun longs to impress Yurika
with his gallantry and prowess in battle (Episode 12 - Those
Unforgettable days) but he usually gets shot down, blown up, or
rescued by Akito and Jiro.
As a sign of his heart felt sorrow , Jun has taken to eating instant
Ramen noodles with Akatsuki Nagare and Seiya
who share a few moments of loneliness, while watching half the women
on board chase Akito (Episode 10 - The
danger of femininity).
