Background

Seiya is the Nadesico's' chief engineer, he is a veteran robot mechanic and manages the Nadesico's Engineering Staff and repair crews.

Seiya is married with a wife and young daughter on Earth, though for most of the war he chooses to ignore them and rarely, if ever writes to them  or spends time with them.

Seiya ran a beach noodle kiosk when the Nadesico landed at Tenician island during an important mission to destroy a Jovian Chulip that had been knocked of course, and crash landed on the island.

As the Nadesico's chief engineer Seiya manages the engines and weapon systems, he has a passion for technology that is not shared by the other officers.

Seiya began a mutiny when he read the fine print in his contract that said that he could not have a relationship with other employees (Episode 5 - Ruri's navigation logs), though he does not have a close relationship with anybody on board. During the closing stages of the Earth - Jovian war Seiya develops a friendship with the pilot Hikaru Amano though this does not become anything more.

Seiya has few friends on board and spends his time eating instant ramen noodles with Jun and Akatsuki who share a common loneliness, women avoid going in to his room which has a strong odor of glue and laundry etc. Seiya is not a pilot and cannot use much of the weapons technology that the engineers build.

Seiya built a prototype Aestavalis with a powerful graviton beam cannon and an advanced power distribution and generation engine. The prototype was never used in battle as it had a critical weakness, its main weapon, a graviton beam cannon, the only weapon of its type to be designed for an Aestavalis, was unstable and likely to self destruct at the moment it reached its peak energy level. The prototype Aestavalis was destroyed when Admiral Munetake used it in a failed attack on the Battleship Cosmos when its graviton beam cannon self destructed, killing the Admiral.

During the closing stages of the Earth - Jovian war Seiya was reunited with his wife and daughter and as he was leaving on what was to be the Nadesico's final voyage of the war, said that he would return to them and be husband and father once more. The spirit of compatriotism on the Nadesico even managed to win him over.

Seiya builds miniature Aestavalis as a hobby, and has a passion for vintage armored vehicles and classic military regalia.
