Background

Izumi is an Aestavalis Pilot on board the Nadesico, she pilots the blue Aestavalis and was first seen after the destruction of the space colony to which she was assigned.

Izumi was born on Earth and was stationed on the Satsuki Midori 2, or L2 colony before its destruction by the Jovians in 2196, she escaped the colonies destruction along with the other pilots (Episode 4 Charmed by Aqua Space). Izumi hide in a cargo container when the colony was destroyed but was close to suffocation before being rescued by the Nadesico.

Izumi was among the mutineers that took over the Nadesico when the crew  read the fine print in their that contracts which prevented close relationships (anything further than holding hands with each other) between Nergal employees (Episode 5 - Ruri's navigation logs). Izumi shares a room with the other pilots from the colony.

Izumi can sleep with her eyes open and does not socialize with the other pilots and crew. She often laughs at puns that nobody else understands.

Izumi has had a number of boyfriends, all of whom have died tragically due to illness and accidents or were killed in during the Earth - Jovian war
