Background

The Scientific Unit was designed as a scientific robot and is not deployed in combat, though this Aestavalis uses the factory chassis, it is not armed and uses its own internal batteries more often. The Scientific Unit still can carry a siphon generator but can also work from a fixed power supply.

The Scientific Unit has enhanced sensors and readouts, both to record and to transmit performance and environmental data for later analysis by Nergal. Combat performance is not in the design specification for this robot so increased weight is not a problem.

Several Scientific Units were sent through a captured Jovian Chulip, though non were able to return successfully with live pilots. All of the Scientific Units suffered from the stresses of an unguided Boson Jump (without a controlling influence to mitigate the dangerous effects of traveling in Boson Space) and although the robots were retrieved from the Chulip, their pilots had all been killed. Seemingly, their cockpits had suffered from the high pressure environment that appears to exist within Boson Space, and had been crushed. This does not tie up with what is known about the Frigate Crocus, which apparently landed unharmed on Mars after an unguided Boson Jump. No trace was reported of the Frigates crew, though they were certainly killed. Also the negative effects of Boson Space during an aborted Jump by Pilot Akatsuki did not reveal themselves as a high pressure incident. However The theory of a high pressure environment does tie in with the death of Pilot Seelie, whose cockpit was crushed during an unguided Boson Jump instigated by the commander of a Giant Jovian Robot.

Armour

The Aestavalis is built for Scientific missions and testing it does not carry additional armour or structural supports.

Weaponry

This Aestavalis does not carry any Aestavalis weapons as standard, it however often carries prototype or experimental weapons that are later deployed with field Aestavalis of other types. It can be armed with a defensive Distortion filed, but it has not been seen to use it, or any form of weapon. The Aestavalis can carry Thrusters but has not been shown using them for flight.
